East Grinstead’s surprisingly wide High Street used to be a market place, and is the main thoroughfare of a conservation area which takes in a mixture of historic buildings, many dating back to medieval times. Our project brings new life to a more recent building, constructed in the 1930s as retail with living accommodation above. The refurbishment has involved not only required us to get a detailed understanding of the existing building, but also the planning constraints in this sensitive central location. By adding a new stair and roof extension, the scheme will eventually deliver four new residential units.
