We have long believed that architecture is a collective undertaking, so it seemed natural that Atomik’s Kazakh team was instrumental in the development of the inaugural Urban Forum Almaty in 2015 and the subsequent Forum in 2016. Set up to gain an understanding of Almaty’s identity in comparison to other cities in the region, we wanted the forum to be an open platform for dialogue between the many different interest groups involved in the city and its future. In 2018 the Urban Forum Kazakhstan Public Foundation was formed, a national organisation that, among other initiatives, hosts a series of round tables and facilitates community initiatives throughout Kazakhstan.
