Digby Works is a former cardboard box factory in Homerton, Hackney. It was opened in the 1920s and later converted into flats in the 1990s. Our seemingly straightforward brief was to improve the building and increase the residential provision.  However, the project is equally about restoring the building’s visual confidence and identity within a complex urban setting.  The scheme combines a number of uses that are not normally considered to be common neighbours; apartments, a nursery, light industrial uses as well as retail.

The massing and colour of the building was informed by the former industrial buildings in the immediate area

The building has seen incremental changes over the past 90 years
