Our installation on one of the small islands of L’Hortillonages at Amiens on the River Somme in France maybe be one of our tinier projects, but typifies our often analog approach to design. The project began with written responses to the site, and the journey to it by car, boat and on foot. First by physical modelling and material studies, and then by digital techniques, we developed a modular form to simplify the fabrication and construction of the installation. The final piece is a curved enclosure constructed from two thousand stacked timber blocks, which brings visitors to a gentle stop at the water’s edge.
